“Are we really going to have to go over the point that buying secondhand helps dolls retain value and that recasts devalue dolls? Buying secondhand doesn’t hurt the hobby in any way, and people shouldn’t be criticized for it.”

my god people just read what they want to read.
No one is saying second hand is bad. Hey it’s fine. I want to be able to get rid of dolls when I want to or need the money. What people were saying is that if you scream… SUPPORT THE COMPANIES…you go and buy directly from them rather than finding ways to avoid paying full price and paying the artist.
I buy second hand quite a bit. maybe 2 out of every ten dolls. However let me use a clothing example to show how SUPPORT works.
I make something, You buy it from me. I get the money/support. I can keep paying my bills and keep selling stuff.
If you buy something of mine second hand when you could have bought it from me. I don’t get anything. I got money from it once upon a time but to keep going I need continuous support. This is why you go and buy directly from the company.
Saying ” Oh hey at least I didn’t buy a similar item/ recast” does not support me in any way.
You can’t just say ” That money might go to someone else to buy from a company.”
It might not. It might go towards a recast or weed or just food. Same when you buy a second hand recast. It might go directly to a legit company but you can not trace where money goes unless you make a direct purchase from the artist.
I paid Soom over $8000 in three years. I know for sure that money went to the company and people were paid for their work so they can continue on doing what they do.
If i would have just bought all that second hand, put soom heads on secondhand miro doll bodies just to avoid paying full price…well I don’t think I would scream on top of my lungs how much I love the sculptors and how much I support them.
Following their blogs is not support. Likes and reblogs do not feed anyone. With that mentality why don’t you go and LIKE all the pages on facebook to cure cancer.
In short. Second hand is not bad. It’s good even. I’m sure everyone shops on the market place. Whats shitty is taking some imaginary moral high ground when companies did not see a cent from you personally.
